One Brave 3 Year Old

The day we anticipated for approximately nine months has come and gone. Salie was such a brave little girl and the surgery was a success!! We arrived at Arkansas Children's Hospital and the staff had an education station set up where Salie was able to play with a baby doll and doctor's tools to ease her anxiety. Surgery lasted a LONG 3 1/2 hours but Dr. Patel was able to remove Salie's 2 centimeter poorly functioning kidney laproscopically without any issues. She was completely cured immediately. She is so proud that her panties stay dry now. We have bought a whole new panty wardrobe and she informed me that I no longer had to wash her panties because they stay dry all the time.

 

She has made a remarkable recovery. She requested after about her 3rd trip to the restroom post surgery to walk by herself, woke up ready to play and completely ignoring the fact that she had an IV attached to her, spent time in the playroom, made a beautiful crafty picture, and went Christmas shopping for all her family members in a store set-up by ACH for all patients. We were on the road before noon and she hasn't had Tylenol since that first night at home. She only complains if someone touches her belly and we are having to keep her slowed down. She needed to get outside and get some "green" (fresh) air today.

 

Elliott was concerned about her sister, "Where Sissy?" but enjoyed a helicopter tour and lots of ice cream while we waited. She has enjoyed every minute of having her sister back home to play. Salie has also been making a "card palace" of all the get well cards she has received in the mail.

 

We are so grateful for all the love and support we received before, during, and after Salie's surgery with the cards, calls, prayers, and time spent with us. A special thank you to Mr. Randy, Mr. Terry, Sirron, Gramma, Nana, & Granddad who kept us company at the hospital and took care of Elliott. Most of all we are so thankful that God placed his healing hand on Salie and guided the doctors and staff in providing excellent care for her. We are truly blessed!
